Works in this series combine excerpts of Herman Melville’s “Moby Dick” printed in letterpress, encyclopedia and dictionary pages about whales, and painting passages of water.
The Cape has been a part of my life since early childhood, particularly the outer cape and its distinct and dynamic coastal environment. Cape related subjects I have made art about include the distinct colors of its shores and beaches, seascape abstractions painted on reproductions of historic maps of the peninsula and surrounding waters, and excerpts from Melville’s “Moby Dick” combined with whale images.
