Fictitious and Actual Lands artworks use strategies such fragmentation, juxtaposition, painterly manipulation, and layering of geographic information to invent new lands and bodies of water. The paintings are created by layering paint over a surface of collaged map fragments, then selectively buffing and sanding portions to expose forms and layers concealed beneath. The series includes paintings, atlases, and works on paper.
