Dan Mills: American Icons & Morphs

Zolla Lieberman Gallery
Chicago

Chicago, IL, August 30 - October 11, 2007

This exhibition focuses on two distinct bodies of work by Dan Mills. In the American Icon series paintings, the artist creates mash-ups by combining portraits of recent American political leaders with their cartoon or comic and unflattering popular comic book characters. Through a series of steps, the eight foot long Morphs (2005) paintings transform a map of the United States into objects such as a military helicopter, assault weapon, and raptor.
